ISC chooses Brentley Gore as a Finalist

ISC is proud to announce the 2011 finalists and semi-finalists. ISC received over 16,000 entries from all over the world, representing all genres of contemporary music. The ISC listening committee narrowed these entries down to 314 finalists in 22 categories. The finalists hail from 37 countries from all corners of the world, from Latvia to India, from Mexico to Ghana, from China to Russia, and everywhere in between. These songs will now be sent to the ISC judges (see below for complete list) who will select the final winners.

ISC 2011 was the most competitive of any year in terms of quantity and quality of entries. “The entries reflect so much passion, creativity, and diversity. The breadth of talent is inspiring and humbling,” says Founder and Director Candace Avery, “and each year the competition surpasses the previous year, making our job of narrowing down the entries increasingly difficult. After a year of listening and re-listenng to the songs, it’s now up to our judges.”

Brentley Gore | Up Until Now | CD Baby *****

Up Until Now CD CoverAn album chalked full of country-rock swagger mixed with a bit of tattered-folk on a freeway; songs ranging from hopeful to haunting. This music is for dirty saints and wide-eyed wanderers.

Brentley Gore’s debut release, “Up Until Now” is somewhat of a compilation. Five of the songs were recorded with his previous band, King Straggler. The tracks Wasted Love, A Thousand Miles and Soul to Waste were recorded and released by King Straggler in 2005. However, Highwire and No Time were recorded with King Straggler in 2007 but never released. The songs Baby, So Much Better and I’ll Get By were recorded with the late-great Don ‘Redcloud’ Smith (appropriately nick-named by Keith Richards) in Los Angeles in 2008. Don Smith has many recording credits to his name, including The Traveling Wilburys, Tom Petty, Keith Richards and The Rolling Stones. Brentley and ‘Redcloud’ were set to finish an entire album following these first recordings with Ringo in mind for a track or two. However, ‘Redcloud’ passed away suddenly 3 weeks prior to re-entering the studio. Track 4 on “Up Until Now” is Dear God. It has been a favorite of many of Brentley’s friends and fans through the years and was recorded in the mid 1990’s with his brother Craig Gore. It has only been sold privately up until now and was never officially released. Ironically Dear God, Brentley’s earliest recording and Baby, Brentley’s latest recording were both recorded at a Rolling Stones studio hideaway called Drive By Studios, 14 years apart!

This is my song “When the Night gets Cold” on ACME Saturday Night; Oct. 2nd 2010 in Los Angeles! The show is very much modeled after SNL, was a lot a fun and also streamed live on line. This was the first of the two songs I performed.

This is my song “All That I’m Wanting” on ACME Saturday Night; Oct. 2nd 2010 in Los Angeles! The show is very much modeled after SNL, was a lot a fun and also streamed live on line. This was the second of the two songs I performed and I thought it be be cool to have someone dance to the song being that there was an empty stage and all. I thought this song kind of lent itself to some modern movement… So I asked my friend Cristina and she agreed … Thanks CBoom!
